Alter Eco (Exited)

Fair Trade, Organic and Carbon Neutral quinoa, rice, sugar and chocolate.

Founded on the principles of forming mutually beneficial relationships between land, food, and people – Alter Eco sources products from over 200 small-scale farmer cooperatives in Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru, Thailand and the Philippines. By working with farmers to institute Fair Trade and Organic practices, Alter Eco has taken foods that are priorities for the conscious consumer and made them more environmentally responsible, socially just, and reliably delicious.

*Exited December 2017 – The sale of Alter Eco to Next World Evergreen, a consumer products and retail focused investment fund with an indefinite term, provides Alter Eco a long-term partner with significant resources that is committed to sustainability and supporting the mission to develop fair trade and organic practices in the developing world. “Renewal’s co-founders –Joel, Paul and Carol- believed there was a place for slow money investments in mission based food companies like Alter Eco…Renewal was a thoughtful, supportive partner along the way. Most importantly, Renewal has always supported the Company’s triple bottom line-driven business decisions, which may have sometime seemed to limit short-term economic profit. Becoming a Public Benefit Corporation, launching the first ever non-GMO, plant-based compostable stand-up pouch packaging, remaining committed to small-scale farmer cooperatives, selling to an evergreen fund, … these are just a few of the initiatives that Renewal has supported and embraced.

Renewal has been a great partner to work with, and Alter Eco can look back on the relationship and appreciate all that was accomplished together.”
